Early morning - two young doe's by the side of the road, heads down, eating wildflowers. Passing by, their heads and ears went up - ears, taller and longer than their nose.
Met my buddy Pete in Arcadia for breakfast. Sat in a favorite booth - with both of us having steak & eggs. Pete and I tolerate each other well, since we both truly enjoy our brand of "smokes".
A relaxed rural ride through central Florida. In Venus - came across a 'reminder' sign outside an old white-washed Baptist Church. "They're not suggestions, they're Commandments".
Headin' home - and while being passed-up by a farm truck, a young boy leans outside the passenger window and gives me the biggest smile of approval - with a front tooth missing - a big, two "thumps-up".

my favorite new friend
This past month I signed up for a summer membership with the Sarasota Lawn Bowling Club, to get out and about, to have a little fun and to meet new friends. It has become much more.
Little did I know that I would meet a unique and charming "young" woman - Geraldine "Gerry" Smith - a 92 year-old renowned, accomplished and very competitive lawn bowler. Thirty some years ago after moving to Sarasota from Michigan, Gerry walked out onto the greens for her very first time, and within two weeks, in her first tournament - she placed 2nd. Soon she was playing in the state's "grass leagues" and would later qualify for the U. S. Championships. During the winter months, Gerry played every day. And today, she truly has become the matriarch for Sarasota's historic Lawn Bowling Club.
But, beyond her dedication, her tournament wins and twice acting as a national umpire - her spry humor, and patience while working with me - has won me over. Just today, she kindly scolded me during our competitive play, while saying, "Hurry it up!"
Gerry Smith - a real sweetheart and true champion.

rainfall
At 4:00 am this morning, a flash of light, a huge clap of thunder followed by a heavy downpour. It's been weeks since our last serious rain. Lately, too many days spent standing around with a hose in my hand and a towel to my brow.

the rains and summer heat ...
have finally put an end to our outdoor dining table. Now, sitting outside in the summer evenings, it's a little too buggy anyway.
But, in it's better days, it certainly became that stand-up table for those past Thanksgiving's.

A grandmother takes her grandson to McDonald's
I ask the cute grandma sitting next to me, "What's he eating"? And Noah replies, "It's a "dip-cone".

Neve picks her favorite
Yesterday my daughter Becca, texted me some photos from their recent family hotel stay where a Women's National Bodybuilding Competition just happened to be 'headlining'. My 7 year-old grand-daughter Neve, up-close and personal, chose her favorite female competitor - # 248.
When Neve was asked why, she commented, "cause, I liked her red outfit."
