Sun City vs Sarasota

Today on my birthday, our lawn bowling club hosted tournament players from Sun City, Florida. We played two rounds of twelve ends.  My threesome consisted of old, good friends and we won our match 23 to 8.  But, even more special, we had a sit-down lunch with about 40 of us total from both clubs, and they all surprised me with a sing-a-long and a home made cake.

My partners - 94 year old Gerry Smith (who taught me how to "bowl") and 86 year old Dick LaBrie (who's life passion is breeding butterflies).

a big one .....

So, on the eve of my 65th, I went out and rented a car as a present.  Even has air-conditioning.  I've been having trouble driving the truck, with it's stick shift, trying to drive with my shoulder and rotator cuff issues.

When you show up for that rental "pick-up" - you never know what to expect - probably a car from your farthest personality.  Anyway, it came with air-conditioning and a full tank.  Should get me to Georgia and back.

old stuff, new interest

Got a call from a new architectural client in need of some images shot 23 years ago.

Being shot on film for an assignment as an editorial piece, I had to go back into that mysterious "darkroom" where once, I spent the majority of my life. Again, looking through boxes and folders with an obscure filing system of original work that had never been archived, by name, date or number. Within several hours, I found the sleeved images with their original captions. I was very proud of myself - maybe even lucky.

The magazine piece was titled;  House of John.

Lately, seems everyone is far more interested in my past, than any possible future.

just one more little thing

After recently hurting my right shoulder - torn rotator cuff - out of necessity, I've had to learn to become left handed.  Including one of the hardest things to accomplish - brushing my teeth with the other hand.

working on a career's worth of work - a web site

For the past week, after finding by chance, a cute and very talented young Ringling College student, Dimitra - who through our casual conversation - inspired me to finally put my life's work out on the World Wide Web.

Little did I know the work involved. Crawling around on my hands and knees, throughout the darkroom and my own office files, it's taken me a long while, a weeks worth, to find over forty years of images.  Not all images - only the ones that I seem to remember - and those that I'm particularly fond of.  But it all seems worthwhile and should be up and running, hopefully within a week.

daily schedule

Day to day, nothing really changes.  Every few days, I still have to pick-up the dog crap, but I really don't mind.  He's worth every pound of it - he's a sweetheart.
